Collecting Business Cards

As you already know, business cards are cards bearing business information about a company or an individual. They are shared during formal introductions as a convenience and a memory aid. A business card typically includes the giver's name, company affiliation and contact information such as street addresses, telephone and fax numbers, e-mail addresses and website. It can also include telex, or bank accounts. Even though the traditional cards were simple black text on white stock, today a professional business card will include one or more aspects of striking visual design.

There are several hundred known collectors of business cards, especially antique cards, celebrity cards, spiritual business cards, or cards made of unusual materials. One of the major business card collectors' clubs is the International Business Card Collectors. The club members exchange cards with each other, simply for the price of postage. Collectors often shorten the words "business card" to BC to make e-mail discussion easier.

The collectors are always on the lookout for business cards. For example, when they enter to any type of store, they immediately scope out the counter area to see if there are business cards. Also, the collectors are known for entering a specific store that has business cards for the sole purpose to pick up a card to be added to the collection.

Due to the fact that it is not a mainstream hobby like collecting coins or stamps, many people are confused when they hear that someone is a business card collector. After all, why on earth would anyone collect little pieces of paper with names and addresses on them? In some cases, it starts out innocently by picking up business cards when you have your own business doing for example business card design for others. And what starts as a sort of idea for the portfolio, it continues to grow into the habit of picking up cards as often as it is possible. In conclusion, if you have some old business cards laying around, drop an email to the collectors club mentioned above because somebody would love to add them to their collection.
